The Interview

TIA:  What keeps you awake late at night?
Madelyn:  Being an engineering student in Batangas State University , being known for engineering courses, is so tough.  And obviously, studying keeps me awake late at night, and most of the time, until madaling araw pa especially when I have exams. Solving problems, memorizing terms and formulas, preparing for a quiz the next day and having an advance reading. Sometimes, i think of giving up, but i only think of my Dad's sacrifice of working away from us just to support my studies and i do believe in the saying "kung my tiyaga, my nilaga". And I am hoping that all my sacrifices, keeping awake late most of the night and my sleepless nights will have a good result in the near future.

She appears to be grown up, but still keep a kid's innocence.

TIA: Assuming you have a boyfriend, are you going to let him kiss you in a movie house? Why?
Madelyn:  No! i believe that kissing is a private thing that a couple must do in a right place and in a right time-- that means not in the movie house. And besides, public display of affection is a big no for women and men alike to preserve their decency.

TIA:  What is it that you can’t talk about with your parents?
Madelyn:  Actually, I don’t have anything that i can't talk with my parents. I do believe that if there are persons who should know everything on you, they should be your parents, because friends come and go, people beside you will go and leave you, but your parents will never ever try to leave you in any situations and in any problems you may face, especially with regards to studies and decision making. Besides, I've grown up. Unlike on my high school days that i used to keep my crushes with my mom because I am a little bit shy. And even I hardly speak. I know my Mom knows what I feel because of her intuition. I know that when I get hurt, she and my Dad are hurting too. Hurting more than I do.

TIA:  What’s the most embarrassing moment in your life?
Madelyn:  The most embarrassing moment in my life, so far, is when I rode on a jeepney one morning. I was on my P.E. uniform. Accidentally, I stepped on my jogging pants as I find my way inside the jeepney looking for a seat. The result. I fell and slammed my behind on the floor! The jeepney shook a bit as if an earthquake just hit us. Everyone had their eyes on me. Although I can’t them, I know from inside they’ve been laughing at me.  Even the driver was shocked of the sound I made and was looking at me! On that very moment, I myself got confused if I have to cry or laugh at myself for what happened. But one thing I’m sure of - Gosh! I AM SO MUCH EMBARASSED! Haha.

Madelyn will always be ready to take off and head to a brighter future.

TIA:  What makes a responsible netizen?
Madelyn:  A responsible netizen is someone who knows his or her limitations in the international network. He is also someone who posts and comments facts and truth and does not degrade or mock someone's belief and ideals.

TIA:  What should a man do to win your heart?
Madelyn:  We, girls, want to be loved and cared for, which is the most important part of a romantic relationship. And for a man to win my heart, he has to accept me for who i am. My katarayan, my being moody, all my traits and attitudes. He has to be a gentleman and sweet. He has to be kind and understanding that he will prioritize me and my feelings all the time and understands me when i commit mistakes, no BUTs and no hesitations at all. He has to be loving and respectful of me and my family. He has to be not God-fearing, but God-loving. And most importantly, he has to love himself and his family before he loves me.

TIA:  What turns you off during a date?
Madelyn:  Men who are too confident and ungentle turn me off during a date.

TIA:  With what you are now, is there anything that you would like to say to your elementary teachers?
Madelyn:  I would like to thank them for inculcating me wisdom a child must know during his or her elementary days. That they taught me what I must know during those years and they didn’t rush things out so I won’t lose my innocence as a child and enjoy my childhood as well.

She could be intimidating. But Madel is actually fun to be with.

TIA:  Do you think Ibaan calendar is worth it? Why?
Madelyn:  Of course because it can promote our beautiful Ibaan- its tourist destinations, its hospitable people, and its delicacies that Ibaeños are truly proud of.

TIA:  How are you going to promote your barangay and the Municipality of Ibaan?
As a student who always makes use of the internet, i could start promoting my barangay and the Municipality of Ibaan through it. I could post articles and blogs with photographs showing how beautiful, peaceful and clean my barangay is. That even Bungahan is unfamiliar to many; i could show that my barangay is worth visiting. As well as Ibaan and its products, like the kulambo, the sugarcane juice, the tamales and the best lomi that could only taste here in Ibaan.

TIA:  What do you think of Chief Justice Renato Corona?
Madelyn:  I am not judging, but based on what Ive observed, I think he failed to be a transparent and responsible public servant of the republic. First, his dishonesty in his scholastic records. There were reported inconsistencies in his UST records and his former interviews. Another is his failure in declaring the true amount of his assets in his SALN. More are being revealed as the impeachment trial goes. But all in all, may truth and justice prevail in the end

TIA:  What’s the difference between winning and losing?
Madelyn:  It's just a matter of bringing home the prizes at stake. One takes it home while others don’t. But in a sense, they don’t have much difference, both of them compete, both gained experience and both have proved what they have.

"We girls want to be loved and be cared for", says Madelyn.

TIA:  Do you wish to win Mutya ng Ibaan 2012? Why?
Madelyn:  Of course, because winning the crown can give me the chance of inspiring people to reach for their goals even if they've already failed many times.

TIA:  Is there anything that you wish to change in Ibaan?
Madelyn:  I think there is no massive change that I want to happen in Ibaan. The government and the place and are all in its perfect state. Only the people i think need to be more conscious, more concern and more responsible of our environment. Like when there's an event on the plaza or a mass on the parish's patio. After the event, we can see the trash scattered on the place where the event was done. And it was really disgusting. Another is that boys should use our public comfort rooms when they are urinating because it causes unpleasant odor like what we endure during our rehearsals on BR Medrano Plaza.

TIA:  Among the candidates, who do you think is the most competitive? Why?
Madelyn:  We all got the beauty, the brains, the confidence and the strength to be a real beauty queen. So I could say that we are all competitive and all of us have the guts of being the Mutya ng Ibaan 2012.
